Psalm 119: 28-32

"My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word.
Keep me from deceitful ways; be gracious to me through you law.
I have chosen the way of truth; I have set my heart on your laws.
I hold fast to your statutes, O Lord; do not let me be put to shame.
I run in the path of your commands, for you have set my heart free. "
Psalm 119: 28-32

I love the fact that I can turn to the God for support. He has set me free through Christ and with his spirit inside of me he will help me follow his laws. With God I can understand him and see his word in a new way. Through him I can be strengthened and hold fast.

Psalm 119: 9-11

"How can a young man keep his way pure?
By living according to your word.
I seek you with all my heart
do not let me stray from you commands.
I have hidden you word in my heart
that I might not sin against you,"
Psalm 119: 9-11

The person who wrote this had a passion for God. To read God's word is to know God. He wants nothing more than to treasure the words God has given in their heart. I have to ask myself do I have a passion for God? Do I treasure his words and seek him? Often I don't, I rush through the day without thoughts of God and his commands. This often means I sin and failure to follow his words. But the beauty of God is that he forgives and I can ask for this forgiveness and ask for help to follow him better.

Ezekiel 36: 26-27

"I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws."

This verse reminds me that it is not me but God who will cleanse me, renew me and help me follow him better. So I need to remember to ask and lean on him. So just as my children look to me I should look to God because he can do so much more than I can.

Exodus 20:17

"You shall not covert your neighbor's house; you shall not covert your neighbour's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbour's"

This is a verse that I have known for years. As a child I remember trying hard not to covert items. As I got older I realized you can covert experiences, things like travels, relationships. I have realized that often people can be jealous over someone's dedication to God (perceiving a closeness) or their desires to get fit, control over money etc. As a Christian being jealous can come in many forms and it settles in your heart. Sometimes you need to look at what you long for and why.

Titus 3:5a

"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us,"

As hard as I try I am always making mistakes and doing wrong. I can do good deeds and help people. Sometimes I do it with a good heart, other times I do because I feel as though as I should. But this verse is one that reminds me that it doesn't matter what I do I am saved. I will always try to do the right things but when I fail God still loves me and save me.

2 Corinthians 12:9

"And he said to me "My grace is sufficient for you, for my strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."

Weakness in today's society is seen as a bad thing, but I follow a God that can use my weakness for his glory. In my areas of weakness I can do nothing but rely on him. So when I succeed it is not me it is him.

So often we want to show off our strength but to God we are beautiful when we rest in him and rely on him in our times of weakness.

Psalm 46:1

"God is our refuge and strength,
A very present help in trouble"

When in trouble how often do we turn to God first? When we do turn to God, do we view him as a present help? Or do we view him as a distant figure?

If Jesus can calm the storm (Matt 8: 23-27) when in the middle of it, then he is right there in the midst of the problem. To go to God as our refuge means we look to him as our protection from danger: now, here right in the middle of trouble. Whether we are far out to sea or tucked up in our beds God is right there to protect us in the storms of our lives and to provide all the help we need. All we have to do is turn to him.
